How I got started! I was blessed at a young age with the gift of baking! I first started baking at the age of nine, and entered my cookies in the local county fair through the local 4-H program, of which I won ribbons and that inspired me to continue… However, never in a million years did I think I would be opening my very own bakery. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but started my journey in the fashion industry. After graduating from Chico State University, I moved to New York to pursue my fashion career. I was fortunate enough to get a job with Macy’s in New York City. I worked as a department manager one of the designer fashion departments. I soon realized I could not afford to live in Manhattan on the management pay I was receiving and came back to California to take a position with Macy’s as the housewares department manager, where I thrived. I realized again how much I loved being in the kitchen. I then had the opportunity to be a buyer for a small cafe and boutique tea shop. I jumped at the opportunity!
Baking you Better 101!
This is where my baking career officially started. The baked goods the cafe was selling were from a bakery in San Francisco and I felt I baked a better product, specifically shortbread. So, I asked if I could attempt to sell it in the cafe? They eagerly agreed! The shortbread was so well received that I started baking other products at night in my pink 18” gas oven at home. I would then take them into work the following morning…. and THAT is where my career in food service started! I love to bake. I love being in the kitchen! I love the wonderful response from the customers! My food service journey has been amazing. I’ve had the pleasure of doing wholesale baking, retail baking as well as catering! All the while growing my business and raising three children as a single Mom! I was always able to have my children with me and that in itself was a blessing. I opened my first brick and mortar bakery when my oldest daughter Tara was only one month old on Valentines day. I opened my second bakery location when my son Kinsey was three months old and Two years later I had my third baby Nika!
